I heard that statement early in my professional career. At the time I’m sure that pearl of wisdom was intended to inspire me physically do something because I needed to do it and that ultimately I’d get to where I could tolerate, or even enjoy doing it – which I’m sure was probably what I did. For whatever reason, that phrase has continued to stick with me and day in and out, for the most part has continued to be true in my life. The added benefit that I later realized was the value of the results of changing those actions and the engagement of my heart in what I was doing. There are a lot of things we just do because we have to do them, I call them “chores”. There are still lots of chores that I’m not engaged in and just excute them, but I’ll tell you those things I’ve more fully engaged all of myself in I do better, quicker and more effectively…why, because my heart’s engaged as well. It’s become something I not only enjoy, but look foward to doing. What things do you need to do differently? Where’s your heart in the process? |
