Growing Smart is Intentional

I’m just off a call with an agency that has grown at an amazing pace in the last couple of years.  When I say “amazing” I really mean staggering.  So why contact a management consultant then?  It’s all in the title of the post – the agency knows that the first million came easily, but it’s killing them too.  Long hours, late nights, stress – you know the drill if you’ve been there.

More times than not I see growth “just happen” and isn’t as intentional as one would like to believe.  You hit a homerun with a particular class of business and they tell their friends.  Other times the market shifts and your carriers are the ones who have the corner on market – neither of which are really intentional on your part, just luck.

Being intentional about growth means you are already intentional about the way your organization is setup and running.  Too many agencies I meet aren’t – which is, I guess, good for me.  But sadly enough for them, there’s a lot of unfortunate “tail chasing” going on and lots of resources being flushed before we get a chance to talk.

Don’t think that you can, as my Mom used to say, “just run around and get bigger”!  Smart growth only happens (95% or more of the time) with intentional, focused, refined and monitored plans.  If you’re struggling with any or all of those things, there’s no need.   Let us help you plan your growth, not just hope you’re lucky and fall into it.
