| Sounds like suicide, but in fact “you can’t lead where you don’t go”, as my Mom says. Never true words were spoken related to what real leadership has to look like. If you’re not willing to set the pace for your staff, be the standard by which they measure themselves in all areas: morally, efficiency and ultimately productively you’re in the wrong office. Sure, you’re the boss, you’ve worked hard to get where you are so you can have some “freedom” – yes, that’s true, but you’re still the “ruler” of the organization, and I don’t mean King Tut “ruler”, I mean the “measuring stick” ruler – the core values standard. Yes, we all know you’re the boss, but if you’re not exemplifying the expectations you have of your team you’re perceived as a double standard – “do as I say, but not as aI do” which will never be a successful leadership posture. Lead in front of your troops and they’ll go the wall for you in the thick of the battle. |
